Despre Scroll (SCR)
Scroll is a Layer 2 scaling solution designed to enhance the Ethereum network's efficiency and scalability. It leverages zkRollup technology, a method that plays a crucial role in reducing transaction costs and improving transaction throughput on the Ethereum blockchain. By utilizing zkRollups, Scroll aims to address some of the most pressing issues facing the Ethereum network today, such as high gas fees and network congestion.
What Is Scroll?
Scroll is a Layer-2 scaling solution built for the Ethereum blockchain, designed to improve transaction speed and reduce costs while maintaining the security and decentralization of the Ethereum mainnet. Using zero-knowledge rollups (zk-rollups), Scroll enables transactions to be processed off the main Ethereum chain and then relayed back to it, easing network congestion. This mechanism allows users to continue utilizing Ethereum’s decentralized applications (DApps) with lower fees and quicker confirmations.
Scroll’s approach prioritizes scalability, compatibility, and security. By integrating a zk-EVM (Zero-Knowledge Ethereum Virtual Machine), Scroll maintains full compatibility with Ethereum, allowing developers to migrate their projects seamlessly without requiring major changes to their existing code. This compatibility means that applications on Ethereum can take advantage of Scroll’s scaling solutions without losing any of the original functionalities.
How Does Scroll Work?
Scroll’s architecture centers around zero-knowledge rollups (zk-rollups), which facilitate off-chain transaction processing. Rollups batch multiple transactions together and process them outside the Ethereum mainnet, then submit a proof back to Ethereum for validation. This system reduces the burden on Ethereum by only requiring the essential data to be verified on-chain, significantly enhancing transaction throughput and lowering costs.
Scroll operates through a three-layer structure:
Settlement Layer: This layer consists of the Ethereum blockchain, which acts as the ultimate verifier for Scroll’s zk-rollups. Ethereum’s role is to ensure data availability and validate the rollup proofs that Scroll generates, providing a high level of security.
Sequencing Layer: This layer is responsible for collecting and organizing transactions within Scroll. Once organized, these transactions are bundled into batches and submitted to the Ethereum settlement layer for final validation and storage.
Proving Layer: Here, zk-rollups are executed. A network of computers, or provers, works together to generate zero-knowledge proofs for the transactions processed off-chain. These proofs confirm that all transactions were handled correctly, ensuring security before the data is passed to Ethereum for validation.
The Scroll network is powered by its zkEVM, which replicates Ethereum’s EVM functionality. The zkEVM allows developers to deploy Ethereum-based smart contracts on Scroll without any changes, offering a seamless experience for users and developers. Additionally, by employing zk-rollups, Scroll provides a secure, cost-effective solution for Ethereum’s scalability issues, making it a powerful tool for developers looking to optimize their decentralized applications.
Scroll's Founding Team
The Scroll project was initiated by a group of dedicated Ethereum researchers and blockchain enthusiasts who recognized the need for scalable, decentralized solutions within the Ethereum ecosystem. The team includes experts from a variety of prestigious backgrounds, such as blockchain development, cryptographic research, and decentralized technology. While specific names are not publicly highlighted, the team has actively collaborated with the Ethereum Foundation Privacy and Scaling Explorations team, focusing on zkEVM development and open-source transparency.
Scroll’s founding team is committed to building in the open, allowing community members to review, audit, and contribute to the protocol from day one. This commitment to transparency and community engagement aligns with the team’s broader goal of promoting decentralization and censorship resistance on the Ethereum network. By creating Scroll, the team aims to provide Ethereum developers and users with a high-performance Layer-2 solution that scales effectively while upholding the core values of security, decentralization, and user empowerment.
