Cetus Protocol is a decentralized exchange (DEX) and concentrated liquidity protocol built on Sui and Aptos. What Happened to CETUS Hacked?
On May 22, 2025, Cetus Protocol experienced a major exploit that resulted in over $223 million in stolen assets. The team confirmed the attack and immediately paused smart contract operations. Approximately $162 million in funds were frozen or recovered.
The exploit was likely caused by oracle manipulation, according to early reports by security firms like HackenProof and blockchain analysis from Lookonchain. The attacker is believed to have used a near-zero liquidity injection to manipulate price data and drain SUI and USDC from vulnerable pools.
The stolen funds were reportedly bridged to Ethereum and swapped for ETH. As of reporting time, the incident caused a significant drop in Total Value Locked (TVL) and a 24% crash in the CETUS token price, affecting other tokens across the Sui ecosystem as well.
The Cetus team is actively working with Sui Foundation, and other ecosystem players to trace the attacker and recover funds.

Prior to the exploit, Cetus was considered a reputable DEX with innovative mechanics, including:
