What Is USAT (USAT) and How Does It Work?
USAT, branded as USA₮, is a U.S. dollar-backed payment stablecoin issued by Anchorage Digital Bank, N.A., with support from Tether. It is designed for digital payments, settlement, and transferring dollar-denominated value on supported blockchains. USAT is a separate token from Tether's USDT, with a different issuer and its own reserve and redemption arrangements.
The issuer targets one U.S. dollar per USAT through reserve backing and issuance and redemption at that reference value for eligible clients, net of applicable fees. Its policy states that reserves consist of cash and low-risk, highly liquid investments held in a segregated reserve trust. USAT holders can transfer tokens between compatible blockchain addresses, while secondary-market trading prices depend on supply, demand, and liquidity.
Direct redemption is available only to Anchorage Digital Bank clients in good standing under their account agreements. Holding USAT alone does not establish that banking relationship. Other holders generally acquire or sell the token through secondary markets, where the price can deviate from the dollar target. USAT does not confer ownership, voting rights, or an entitlement to reserve income.
When Did USAT Launch?
Tether introduced the USAT initiative on September 12, 2025, naming Anchorage Digital as the intended issuer and Bo Hines as the future CEO of Tether USA₮. The announcement described a stablecoin designed for the U.S. market and the federal stablecoin framework established under the GENIUS Act.
USAT formally launched on January 27, 2026. Subsequent milestones include monthly reserve attestations and supported deployments on Ethereum and Celo. These developments concern issuance, transparency, and access to digital dollars; they do not guarantee secondary-market liquidity or uninterrupted redemption.
Who Created USAT?
Tether introduced and supports the USAT initiative, while Anchorage Digital Bank, N.A. is its sole issuer. Anchorage is a federally chartered national trust bank regulated by the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency. Tether Operations licenses the USAT branding and publishes the project's website, and its role should be distinguished from the bank's issuance and redemption responsibilities.
Bo Hines, formerly Executive Director of the White House Crypto Council, leads Tether USA₮ as CEO. The initial project announcement identified Hadron by Tether as the tokenization technology and Cantor Fitzgerald as the designated reserve custodian and preferred primary dealer. Token holders receive no equity or profit-sharing rights in these organizations.
USAT Roadmap
Public materials describe an adoption strategy without a dated, milestone-by-milestone delivery schedule. Its stated priorities include:
- Expand payment acceptance: Make USAT useful for merchant checkout, freelancer payments, and cross-border transfers through supported platforms.
- Develop institutional settlement: Support businesses that move dollar-denominated funds for treasury operations and settlement beyond traditional banking hours, subject to issuer and platform availability.
- Broaden ecosystem access: Extend distribution and integrations across compatible wallets and financial platforms. Any additional blockchain deployment should be confirmed in the issuer's current supported-network documentation.
- Maintain reserve transparency: Continue publishing monthly reserve disclosures so users can assess backing, reserve composition, and redeemable tokens outstanding.
What Is the USAT Token Utility?
USAT functions as a transferable digital dollar for payments and settlement. Its usefulness depends on acceptance, liquidity, reserve quality, and reliable access to supported networks and services.
1. Payments and remittances: Users can send dollar-denominated tokens to compatible addresses or accepting businesses. Costs and confirmation times depend on the network and service provider.
2. Trading and liquidity management: Traders can use USAT where supported to hold dollar-denominated balances and exchange assets. A dollar target does not eliminate counterparty risk or market-price deviations.
3. Business treasury and settlement: Businesses can integrate USAT into supported payment and treasury workflows. Eligible Anchorage clients can access direct issuance and redemption under the bank's onboarding, compliance, and account requirements.
To trade USAT on BingX, log into your verified account, fund your spot wallet with USDT, and open the USAT/USDT spot market. A Market order executes against available orders and can incur slippage; a Limit order sets your chosen price and may remain unfilled. Check regional eligibility, fees, and order-book depth before placing an order. Trading USAT for USDT is a secondary-market transaction, separate from redeeming USAT for U.S. dollars with the issuer.
What Is USAT Tokenomics?
USAT uses a reserve-backed issuance model. Its supply changes with issuance, redemption, and the operational treatment of tokens across supported networks. The reviewed issuer materials do not specify a fixed economic maximum supply or a speculative token-release schedule.
The issuer's reserve report for September 30, 2026, recorded 176,216,064 redeemable USAT tokens outstanding. This is a historical reporting figure, not a live circulating-supply reading. The report distinguishes minted tokens, issued tokens, unissued inventory, and bridge-locked tokens, so adding blockchain balances without those adjustments can overstate redeemable supply. Readers should consult the latest reserve report and live market interface for updated information.
Anchorage's policy states that the bank retains income generated by reserve assets and does not pay interest or yield solely for holding USAT. The token grants no governance rights, dividends, or participation in the issuer's financial performance. Any third-party yield offer introduces separate terms and risks and should be evaluated independently.
USAT Token Allocation
USAT's disclosed framework centers on issuance against dollar funding, with no conventional percentage allocation to founders, venture investors, staking rewards, or community emissions in the reviewed issuer materials. A fixed-supply allocation pie chart would misrepresent this model.
The reserve reports instead separate operational categories such as issued tokens, minted but unissued inventory, and bridge-locked balances. Unissued inventory should not automatically be treated as a team allocation, and bridge-locked balances require reconciliation against corresponding tokens on the destination chain. Wallet concentration can reflect custodians, distribution platforms, or bridge infrastructure and does not establish beneficial ownership by itself.
