India’s June 2026 edible oil imports fall 30% to 1.11M tonnes as palm oil demand drops
India’s edible oil imports in June 2026 fell 30% year on year to 1.11M tonnes, led by a sharp decline in palm oil arrivals to 4.87M tonnes. The Solvent Extractors’ Association of India (SEA) said the fall coincided with palm oil’s discount to soft oils such as soyabean oil narrowing to under US$50/tonne amid higher global spot prices. SEA attributed the tighter pricing to biofuel blending mandates in Indonesia, Malaysia and the USA that diverted vegetable oils from food to fuel use. Despite the monthly drop, imports in the first eight months of the 2025/26 oil year rose 7% to 103.88M tonnes.
