Cetus Protocol uses a dual-token system consisting of CETUS (the utility token) and xCETUS (the governance and loyalty token). This structure is designed to support liquidity incentives, governance participation, and long-term ecosystem alignment.

• Total Supply: 1,000,000,000 CETUS

• Community and Liquidity Providers: 50% distributed through mining, farming, and marketing incentives

• Team and Advisors: 20%, with 12-month lockup and 24-month linear vesting

• Investors: 15%, with 6-month lockup and 12-month linear vesting

• Liquidity Treasury: 15%, reserved for CEX/DEX liquidity provisioning and strategic reserves

Governance Token: xCETUS

CETUS can be staked to mint xCETUS, a non-transferable governance token. Users can:

• Voting rights for protocol upgrades and ecosystem decisions

• Loyalty perks such as better launchpad quotas and exclusive feature access

• Yield and mining multipliers

• Launchpad participation eligibility

xCETUS can be redeemed back to CETUS based on a time-weighted vesting schedule. The longer the lockup, the closer the redemption ratio is to 1:1. Redemptions with shorter vesting periods forfeit a portion of CETUS, which is redirected to the ecosystem treasury for sustainability.

This dual-token model encourages long-term alignment while giving users flexibility in how they engage with the platform.

What Happened to CETUS Hacked?

On May 22, 2025, Cetus Protocol experienced a major exploit that resulted in over $223 million in stolen assets. The team confirmed the attack and immediately paused smart contract operations. Approximately $162 million in funds were frozen or recovered.

The exploit was likely caused by oracle manipulation, according to early reports by security firms like HackenProof and blockchain analysis from Lookonchain. The attacker is believed to have used a near-zero liquidity injection to manipulate price data and drain SUI and USDC from vulnerable pools.

The stolen funds were reportedly bridged to Ethereum and swapped for ETH. As of reporting time, the incident caused a significant drop in Total Value Locked (TVL) and a 24% crash in the CETUS token price, affecting other tokens across the Sui ecosystem as well.

The Cetus team is actively working with Sui Foundation, and other ecosystem players to trace the attacker and recover funds.

Is CETUS Safe?

Prior to the exploit, Cetus was considered a reputable DEX with innovative mechanics, including:

• On-chain oracles derived from its own liquidity pools

• Integration with Pyth Network for additional price feeds

• Fee-based liquidity mining to reward real contributors
