Morgan Stanley Files for Spot Bitcoin ETF With Coinbase and BNY Mellon Custody
Morgan Stanley filed an amended S-1 registration with the SEC on March 4, 2026, to launch its first spot Bitcoin ETF on NYSE Arca. The fund will use dual custody, with Coinbase Custody holding Bitcoin in offline cold storage and BNY Mellon handling fund administration, transfer agency, and cash custody, the filing shows. Net asset value will be calculated daily using prices from major exchanges, including the CoinDesk Bitcoin Benchmark Rate. The filing follows $1.1 billion in net inflows to U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs last week and comes as Morgan Stanley extends a $500 million loan to miner Core Scientific, with analysts noting potential inflows would represent fresh demand rather than capital rotating from existing funds.
