U.S. retail investors turn sharply bearish, AAII bearishness hits 53%—institutions flag potential contrarian turning point

AI مارکیٹ کا خلاصہ
AAII data show U.S. retail bearishness jumping to 53% while bullishness falls below 29%, the most pessimistic reading since May 2025. Institutions frame this as a contrarian setup, implying downside sentiment may be near exhaustion. The shift coincides with rebounding oil prices and higher U.S. Treasury yields, tightening financial conditions and pressuring risk appetite in U.S. equities near term.

Bearish sentiment among U.S. retail investors has climbed to 53%, a level some institutions view as approaching a contrarian reversal zone. GoldNews noted that as oil prices rebound and U.S. Treasury yields move higher, retail sentiment toward U.S. equities has deteriorated markedly. The latest weekly survey from the American Association of Individual Investors (AAII) shows about 53% of respondents expect U.S. stocks to perform poorly over the next six months. That is roughly 14 percentage points higher than the prior week and the highest reading since May 2025. At the same time, the share of bullish respondents slipped below 29%, down about 10 percentage points in a single week, marking the lowest level in around a year.
