BlackRock bought more than $120 million worth of Bitcoin (BTC) through its iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) over the most recent trading week, according to spot Bitcoin ETF flow data.
Data compiled from spot Bitcoin ETF flows show the world's largest asset manager posted net inflows of about $120.6 million from September 14 to September 18. IBIT pulled in $134.3 million on September 14, saw redemptions on September 15 and 16, then finished the week with inflows of $183.7 million and $108.4 million in the final two sessions.
The buying coincided with Bitcoin reclaiming the $80,000 level after a volatile stretch that included higher Treasury yields, inflation worries, and a Federal Reserve rate hike. Bitcoin traded above $80,500 on September 18, extending a rebound that followed heavy ETF outflows earlier in the week.
Broader ETF flows were choppy. U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs logged $160 million of net inflows on September 14, then swung to net outflows of $450.3 million and $296 million on September 15 and 16. Flows turned positive again with $159.5 million of inflows on September 17 and another $433 million on September 18, led largely by Fidelity and renewed buying across multiple funds.
The latest moves underscore how sensitive the ETF market remains to macro signals. Since launching in January 2024, spot Bitcoin ETFs have accumulated roughly $54.7 billion in net inflows and now oversee about $96.2 billion in assets. September has been uneven, with more outflow days than inflow days so far, though several strong inflow sessions have offset much of the selling pressure. One standout session on September 3 delivered more than $730 million of net inflows, among the strongest days of the year.
Institutional demand has continued to support Bitcoin's recovery. Earlier this month, U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs brought in nearly $987 million in weekly inflows, extending a multiweek run that has attracted more than $3.8 billion of new capital.
Ethereum ETFs moved the other way. Over the same five-session period, BlackRock's Ethereum (ETH) ETF products ETHA and ETHB recorded a combined net outflow of about $49.1 million, pointing to stronger institutional demand for regulated Bitcoin exposure than for Ethereum.
