Fenbi Group (02469.HK) said in an interim results outlook released on July 28 that it incurred an investment loss of about $8.3 million (roughly RMB 56.15 million) after selling multiple ETF products and listed securities purchased in the public market between July 1 and July 7, 2026, according to Huo Xing Cai Jing. The company added that as of the close of business last Friday (July 24), financial assets measured at fair value through profit or loss still included listed securities in three public companies, with a total value of about $8.5 million. The board said it will closely monitor the investment portfolio's performance. Attention has also focused on Zhang Xiaolong, CEO of Fenbi Education, a leading civil service exam-prep provider in China. On June 3, Zhang delivered a career-planning talk at Renmin University of China. Although the session was originally billed around civil service exams, he switched the topic to "Career Planning in the AI Era," pitching stock trading as the best career path, encouraging a focus on tech shares — and even U.S. stocks — and suggesting families trade together. He claimed he made RMB 53 million in one month by investing RMB 80 million in cash. After a muted audience reaction, Zhang reportedly became agitated, cursed at students, and left the stage. Earlier this month, he resigned as executive director, CEO and chairman. Shares of Fenbi Group fell nearly 17% on Monday, touching a fresh all-time low, market data showed.
