Bitcoin jumps 26% on ETF buying and a short squeeze, with $83,000–$86,000 as the next major ceiling
AI مارکیٹ کا خلاصہ
Glassnode attributes BTC's 26% rebound primarily to a record short-liquidation event and sustained spot demand, reinforced by $2.23B in U.S. spot ETF inflows and falling exchange balances. Neutral funding and lower futures open interest suggest the move was not fueled by incremental leveraged longs. The key near-term focus is heavy overhead supply and liquidation density at $83k–$86k, with defined supports around $70k and $62k–$65k.

Huoxing Finance reports: Glassnode's weekly on-chain update dated August 27 says Bitcoin has rebounded 26% from its mid-August low, with the move sparked by a record single-day wave of short liquidations and then supported by spot demand, ETF inflows and tightening on-chain supply.
Glassnode highlights August 19 as the largest single-day short liquidation in its dataset since 2019. Over the rally, shorts accounted for 85% of all liquidations, and the market absorbed 86% of the modeled liquidation-related liquidity. A large cluster of potential short liquidations remains concentrated between $82,000 and $86,000, while notable long liquidation zones sit lower, between $60,500 and $62,400.
Capital flows have played a central role. U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded net inflows of $2.23 billion during the advance, including seven straight sessions with no outflows, marking the strongest seven-day inflow stretch this year. At the same time, Bitcoin futures open interest (in BTC terms) fell 11%, and perpetual funding stayed broadly neutral—signals that the rally was not primarily fueled by fresh leveraged long positioning.
Holder behavior also points to redistribution. Since the June 30 low, entities holding 1,000–10,000 BTC cut holdings by about 50,500 BTC, while entities holding more than 100,000 BTC added roughly 59,100 BTC. Glassnode interprets this as Bitcoin shifting from large individual holders toward larger institutional custody addresses. Across the board, 30-day cumulative trend scores for all six wallet-size cohorts remain at or above the neutral 0.5 level, indicating broad-based accumulation.
The report notes a clear decoupling from U.S. equities during this upswing: Bitcoin gained 25% while the S&P 500 slipped 1.7%, and the one-month rolling correlation in returns moved close to zero, suggesting crypto-specific capital flows rather than traditional risk-on sentiment drove the move.
From both technical and on-chain supply perspectives, Glassnode identifies $83,000–$86,000 as the most important resistance zone. The first self-custody cost-basis band sits near $80,800; market makers' gamma turns negative around $82,300; and the broader area also overlaps with concentrated short-liquidation levels and long-term holder supply. If price pushes deeper into this range, the market will effectively test whether long-term holders sell near their cost basis.
On the downside, $70,000 is flagged as the short-term holder cost basis, while $62,000–$65,000 is viewed as a key support band formed during the June–August consolidation. A break below $70,000 could open the door to a test of $62,000–$65,000; Glassnode adds that a retest of $62,900—the level where the short squeeze began—could indicate a full reversal of the rally.
Options pricing points to expectations for range trading. For September 25 expiry, the middle 70% implied range is roughly $69,000–$89,700, with the median near the current spot level. Glassnode says the options market is not currently pricing a breakout above $86,000 or a renewed test of lower supports as the base case.
Overall, Glassnode characterizes the move as a staged recovery: initiated by short liquidations, sustained by ETF inflows and spot demand, and reinforced by tightening on-chain supply. Holding above $83,300 alongside continued ETF inflows would strengthen the case that overhead supply is being absorbed. Key downside levels remain $70,000 and the $62,000–$65,000 support zone.
