Raw sugar futures edged lower. New York No. 11 (SBV26) fell 0.21% and London No. 5 (SWV26) declined 0.46%.
The move followed a sharp drop in crude oil, with WTI sliding more than 5% in a single session after a 7% plunge the day before. Weaker oil prices have weighed on ethanol values, encouraging mills to direct more cane toward sugar production instead of fuel ethanol, lifting expectations for sugar supply.
In India, monsoon rainfall has improved to 16% below normal, though the full-year outlook has been cut to 90% of the long-term average, a factor that could still complicate production prospects.
