Sugar prices are climbing as fresh forecasts point to a tighter supply picture. The EU Sugar Market Observatory projects EU sugar output in the 2026/27 season will fall 19% year on year to 13.4 million tonnes. In India, the national meteorological department said cumulative monsoon rainfall as of Aug. 26 was 13% below normal.
An industry group expects global sugar production in 2027/28 to slip 0.7% to 177 million tonnes, citing weather disruptions in India, the EU and Thailand. Global sugar consumption is forecast to rise 0.4% to a record 179.991 million tonnes.
