Zcash on Tuesday activated Ironwood at block 3,428,143, sealing its main shielded pool, Orchard, to new deposits and internal transfers. Funds already in Orchard must be withdrawn by their owners through a "turnstile" mechanism that limits withdrawals to amounts that can be proven as deposited.
Node output published hours after the activation showed Ironwood holding 104,035 ZEC, compared with about 3.56 million ZEC still in Orchard, implying nearly 3% migrated on the first day.
The upgrade follows the discovery in late May of a soundness flaw in Orchard's proof circuit. The bug could have allowed counterfeit zcash:native to be minted without leaving an on-chain trace.
