Trump taps Todd Blanche as acting attorney general; DOJ disbands crypto enforcement unit

U.S. President Donald Trump has removed Attorney General Pam Bondi and named Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche—his former personal attorney—as acting attorney general, CoinDesk reported, citing ChainCatcher. Blanche represented Trump in New York criminal cases. After becoming deputy attorney general, he ordered the Justice Department to dismantle its National Cryptocurrency Enforcement Team and issued a memo instructing prosecutors to stop pursuing cases against the crypto industry focused on regulatory violations. Documents show that when Blanche signed the directive, he still held $159,000 to $485,000 in crypto-related assets, including Bitcoin, Solana, Cardano, Ethereum, Polygon, Polkadot, Quant, and Coinbase stock. The holdings conflicted with ethics rules and his earlier pledge to divest before handling cryptocurrency-related matters.
