Vitalik Buterin Outlines Ethereum Scaling Roadmap With Multidimensional Gas Model

Ethereum cofounder Vitalik Buterin presented a scaling roadmap splitting the network's evolution into short-term and long-term phases, detailing technical upgrades to boost throughput while preserving decentralization and security. The near-term Glamsterdam upgrade will introduce block-level access lists for parallel verification, refine block processing via ePBS, and deploy a multidimensional gas model pricing "state creation" and "execution" separately. Over the longer term, Ethereum will adopt PeerDAS to process up to 8 MB/s of data and begin rolling out ZKEVM technology in 2026, with broader deployment targeted for 2027 to form a highly scalable blockchain network verified through multiple proof systems.
