Vitalik Buterin Explains Ethereum Contract Size Limits and DoS Protection in 2025

Ethereum founder Vitalik Buterin has outlined why the network enforces a contract size limit as a defense against denial-of-service attacks. He noted that very large contracts are costly for nodes to store, transmit and process, and hinted that future upgrades such as an EIP-7864 unified binary tree could eventually enable unlimited contract sizes while still considering gas cost mechanics.
