BNB Smart Chain plans to activate the Fermi hard fork on Jan. 14, 2026, reducing block intervals from 750ms to 250ms. The upgrade introduces extended voting and partial-ledger indexing to improve consensus resilience and lighten node requirements, while experimental BAL testing showed roughly 18.6% execution gains. The network currently processes around 165 transactions per second.
