Japan, South Korea equities tumble; KOSPI sinks nearly 11% as chipmakers slide

Japanese and South Korean stocks sold off sharply on Tuesday, July 28. Japan's Nikkei 225 ended the session down 2,566.27 points, or 3.95%, at 62,364.92. South Korea's KOSPI closed 732.12 points lower, a 10.84% drop, at 6,023.63. The index slid more than 11% intraday, briefly falling below the 6,000 level, and is down nearly 30% so far this month. Chip heavyweights led the declines, with SK Hynix plunging more than 14% and Samsung Electronics losing over 13%. (Jin10)
