U.S. Supreme Court rules 7-2 that federal pesticide law blocks Roundup cancer-warning lawsuits against Monsanto

The U.S. Supreme Court ruled 7-2 that federal pesticide law preempts state-law claims accusing Monsanto of failing to warn on Roundup labels about alleged cancer risks. The decision is expected to shut down thousands of similar suits and reduce Bayer’s Roundup-related legal exposure stemming from its 2018 acquisition of Monsanto. Bayer said it will keep pursuing final approval of a $7.25 billion proposed class settlement intended to resolve current and future Roundup claims, according to a statement shared with CBS News.
